after del Muerto

I’m in I-died-and-went-to-heaven Colorado. Yup
We rolled in a bit ago, into Cortez, after crossing the Four Corners of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah with only a bleep of ceremony. Going from the Navajo Nation to the Ute Nation. Last night we camped by the side of the road in the vast human sprinkled lands of no trees, no grass, no water. Earth and sky.
Yesterday we traveled on “del Muerto” side of things. Here is a photo of the Navajo fortress where the people hid from Kit Carson, were eventually rounded up and herded to Fort Sumner 400 miles away.
Here is a photo of Massacre Cave where earlier, as the Spaniards sought to extend their range, Navajo were killed as bullets ricocheted on the canyon walls into where the women, children and elders were attempting to hide.
We are going to be seeing more ruins of extinct people, marveling at their skill and what their lives might have been like. It is the ones living now that I am considering and can not show you here.
