Couple travelled 30 states and 3 Canadian provinces between 7/07 and 5/08 running their 1987 Ford truck on straight veggie oil. The blog continues with a focus on the natural world and energy politics from a personal perspective

Feather, Tahoe, Nugget

The trains strained along the Feather River Canyon all night. We walked down to the river at Spanish Creek, enjoying the lack of people and the beauty of the river, both before bed in the foggy darkness and in the sweet morning.
We stopped at the Quincy Natural Foods store to get bleach to try to alleviate the swamp smell coming from our water tank. This sentinel sunflower stood by the front door and was complemented by burgundy elephant amaranth that volunteered to be stand out customer catchers all around it.
We cut across the Sierra following the Truckee River. (This time last year our palette ran more to reds in the Great Lakes border regions.) The brilliant shimmering aspen yellow is hard to capture in stillness but plays bright in the memory.
We followed Lake Tahoe around to the East, applauding the first snow on the peaks, and dropped down into Carson City, Nevada where we started right off with menial duties at the Obama Headquarters. We close the day in The Nugget (Casino) RV parking lot as we prepare to offer up our time to this swing state’s needs for the next 10 days.
