High Camp Hut
We are at Lizard Head Pass. The VV won’t start.
Yesterday afternoon we had come here to ski after leaving Telluride. A couple came and asked Michael for a tool. He ended up working with them on a carburetor problem they were having on their little snow cat.
Miraculously they own 320 acres deep in the San Juan National Forest and a cabin and they invited him to go ahead and stay there overnight. The weather was intermittently snowy and I had to use climbing skins to make it the 2.5 miles and 1000ft. climb. Michael went ahead and started a fire so when I got to the cabin it was warm and cozy with the snow falling heavily. The winter conditions were offset by solar lights and melting snow in a big pan on the wood stove.
My favorite part of being in a house for the first time since Thanksgiving was being ringed by mountains. In the morning I got up before dawn to catch the first orange light on the peaks.
The ski down was fabulous and Yeah! Michael just got the truck going!
